how to make friends in college
Did you know that number one reason new college students drop out of school in their first year, is because they don't feel like they belong? Your desire to make more friends in college is often underestimated by adults. That you want to make more friends in college is very important. Most people do not understand how important it is, and so they give general advice like, "Put yourself out there," or "Be nice to other people," you and I both know, that this advice doesn't cut it.
make new college friends
The first step to making as many friends as you want in college, is to understand that college is literally a tribe. Think of it like a tribe of primates. There are the "leaders" of the tribe, and there are followers.
The leaders do not have to make an effort to make friends. Everyone wants to be their friend. Here's a secret about the leaders of the tribe: They have something of value which they share with the tribe.
Leaders give, and followers take. Followers look for the approval of others, sometimes they are needy, sometimes they have insecurities. Leaders don't concern themselves too much with their own troubles, they focus on what they can offer to the tribe, and they some cool perks because of it. If you want to make more friends in college, here are the two key things you can offer other people:
Fun
Access to more friends
In college, people quickly brand you as one type of person or another. If you host two or three decent parties or get-togethers, you will quickly be branded as the person who is fun. Once this happens, people will automatically look to you to find out what next fun thing will be happening.
Another way to make more friends in college is to strategically make friends with people who I call "social connectors". A social connector is someone who is very well connected with other people. They know just about everybody. They are just friendly with everyone. Most people have on average 40 causal friends, social connectors know way more people than that. If you want to make more friends in college, make the effort to make friends with these kinds of people, because they can exponentially increase the number of friends you have overnight.
As I said before, you probably have about 40 causal friends, but the reality is that you only have enough time to hang out with 6-8 of them frequently. Those 6-8 are your core social group. If you are on a serious mission to make more friends in college, your 6-8 friends should all be social connectors.
Let's do the math, if all 8 of your closest friends are social connectors, and they are each well acquainted with 400 people, then immediately, you will become acquainted with 3200 people. If you coordinate a party with the help of your team of 8 social connector friends, then throwing a party that is packed becomes much less complicated.
This was a summarized version of my strategy for becoming extremely popular in college. I go into further detail on my blog, which focuses on complete dating and social circle mastery for college guys. If you'd like more info, check out my link in the signature box.
